I have chosen, or been chosen, to become and Environmental Modeller. Why? Well, I talked to DEAN, the lead enviro dude at Krome, and he said some interesting things. It seems that this stream requires a bit of knowledge in everything. People with modelling, texturing, shader programming, animation, and general design sense will do well here. This really caters to what I think my skills are. Besides, I have always liked the idea of environments being a character in themselves. That is something I really want to explore.
With that in mind, I will be producing a few environments, putting them into several engines, hooking up some scripting, throwing some characters in there, and generally trying to apply the "Environment as a character" theme. I hope to work with AMSTRAD on this, using some of his character.
What kind of environments? Well, I love snow-scapes. There is something foreboding and austere about white environment, and that is something I would love to explore. The art of Rein Poortvliet is a big inspiration for me, as is Turner and the Wyeth dynasty.
I will be using these artists as references, and trying to create something sweet. Stay tuned!
